Live Music – Architects @ Webster Hall

Metalcore band Architects performing at Webster Hall in New York City, NY. Opening for The Ghost Inside and Every Time I Die. (www.chrisromanophotography.com - Chris Romano)

Even when its tough, it’s always enjoyable to photograph one of my favorite bands.  In this case is the UK’s own, Architects.  Photographing them for my second time this year, and this time with a photo pit (instead of just sniping from the side of the stage), it was still a rather difficult encounter…

Notes on photographing Architects:

Blegh.

Out of all the bands that were on this bill that I shot, Architects had was was probably the easiest lighting to work with, and that’s not saying much.  Instead of rapid pinks and greens or Every Time I Die or the dark blues with little front lighting of The Ghost Inside, the boys had a bit more strobe and front lighting to work with.  Still, Webster Hall’s lighting rigs are very outdated and weak, and it make taking solid photo of a band performing on stage rater rough.

Added to the weak lighting, was the packed photo pit, with massive security guards standing closely in just about any spot that I would have liked to stand.  After the second song, I decided to just go for the gusto, and pushed myself in to the center of the stage.  This set me right in front of Sam Carter, who tends to move constantly back and forth on the stage.  There were some cool shots I got of Sam that I had to pass on as they were to soft in focus, but it gives me a good idea how I want to shoot next time Architects are in town.
